Eastern State Penitentiary Announces Four New Site-Specific Artist Installations for 2012
Of special note is stained glass artist, Guggenheim Fellow and Philadelphia resident Judith Schaechter’s “The Battle of Carnival and Lent,” which is an ambitious new work within the penitentiary’s narrow skylights and arched windows. These 17 stained glass windows are inspired by the prison’s dark history and will be installed in historic skylights throughout Cellblocks 8, 11 and 14.
