Dr. Who - revisited

Apparently this is another in the series of stained glass panels that were used in advertising but never actually produced in glass. This is one of the more impressive glass simulations - my hat's off to the designer. Brilliant!

Korean Pavilion for Shanghai Expo

From the Blog - Design Envy:
The overall volume, lifted 24 feet above ground level, is created by converging 20 basic letters of the Korean alphabet, Hangul, allowing signs to create the exhibition space, and so that the visitors can experience their geometry through horizontal, vertical and diagonal movements. The primary geometries that compose the Hangul letters are universal to other cultures, thus acting as a sort of open set of signs that is engaging to everyone.

Today I am looking at the Helping Angel Stained Glass Panel at the Detroit Institute of Art.  The John LaFarge panel is dated 1890 and was formerly installed in the Unitarian Church, Woodward Avenue at Edmund Place, Detroit, Michigan.

Issue 63 of Vidimus

Issue 63 of Vidimus, the first this autumn, is on line now at http://vidimus.org/.
We have much of interest in our News page, with the appointment of a new Curator for the Stained Glass Museum, updates about the conservation of the Herkenrode glass at Lichfield Cathedral, and news from the recent international Corpus Vitrearum colloquium in Vienna. We have another fascinating Feature, on seventeenth-century glass associated with Winchester Cathedral by Geoffrey Lane, an expert on the period, and instead of a Books page this month we have an update on our recent feature on the beautiful glass at Hatton.
